So I am mixing things up a bit this week! Craig is on tour so I was flying solo for breakfast. I decided that instead of the normal cafe breakfast I would head to the local markets. The weather was perfect and I scored all kinds of goodies.
For breakfast I had Lime, ginger and sugar cane juice, Steamed dim sum (Tofu), and spring rolls. It was delicious!
The markets started near us a couple of months back and it has been great! They are currently every second Sunday but I think due to lack of community support & over priced stall charges. they might only be every third Sunday of the month soon. I am still very happy the markets are close by and I wish more people would support the markets. They are in a great location with lots of parking and lots of amazing things to purchase.
Support your local market!
The juice – Sugar Cane Juices – Sorry I could not find a link online to their details.
The Rice Hut – Again I think this stall is so new I don’t think they have a link but I HIGHLY Recommend their spring rolls. Not vegetarian but delicious
Steamed Catering – I recommend the tofu dim sum. With the bean and chilli sauce they have. YUM!

Market day!

I generally like to stay fairly close to home for breakfast. last month Craig was able to convince me to drive to the north side for award winning coffee at driftwood and dandelion. Seeing how this was a success I decided to try venturing to the north side again for breakfast. We went to a place called willow and spoon.
I was a bit worried when we first arrived that it was super small and there would be no tables left. However we were lucky and there were a couple inside. I also think there was a back area outside but I didn’t notice that till much later on.
The staff were super friendly and gave us menu’s right away. We noticed it was an “April” menu which I could only assume means they change their menu every month. Which is bittersweet… I am the type of person that goes to a restaurant sticks to one thing and rarely ever tries anything else. However a menu change could force me out of my bubble! Exciting! Another thing I noticed about the menu is that they had a kids menu. I was almost keen to order the dinosaur egg’s. ha!
anyway… back to breakfast. I ordered a very normal poached egg, bacon and toast with citrus and beetroot jam. They only had sour dough bread which at the time was a bit disappointing since I am usually not a big fan. However I was quickly corrected! The sour dough toast and jam was incredible! I loved it and I would totally go back for it. Not to mention they had hand churned butter. Also delicious. I just felt like so much thought went into my dish.
Craig got some sort of mexican chicken breakfast with I think beans and salsa. He seemed to really enjoy it.
Our coffees came a bit late but the staff notified us when we ordered and apologized for the wait when they arrived.. which to us was no big deal at all. You could see the counter and that barrista is one hell of a busy barrista. She did not stop the whole time we were there. So a late coffee was a totally understandable. (also when I say late it was like 1 minute after our meal arrived. we probably wouldn’t of even noticed it was late if they didn’t say anything). Also coffee was delicious. I think next time though I might check out one of the 9 owl tea’s they have to offer.
This place was wonderful and I will definitely be heading back for more!

Easter breakfast! Even though our cafe selections were limited we ended up venturing to SisCo’s. Our friends work there which is how we heard of the place. We have been there once before and a tomato may have attacked me. By attack…I mean it slipped off my plate and landed on my shirt. This also may have been eater error.
In any case they have a very lovely menu. A unique breakfast menu selections which is always a refreshing change. We were expecting the place to be extremely busy however to our surprise the place was empty. To me this was fantastic news because I was starving and an empty cafe means faster service! wooo! Our coffee was served in what I would call record timing for a cafe.
Due to Easter they had a great breakfast special. Vanilla hot cakes, with chocolate sauce, candied walnuts and some sort of weird fruit. Another classic on their menu which has been recommended to us countless times is the pork and fennel sausage baguette. We both wanted both of these items so we shared. GREAT IDEA! I started with the pancakes. Craig on the pork and fennel sausage baguette. half way through…the switcheroo happened! best of both worlds. sweet and savoury breakfast.

Every time we have out of town visitors we head to our favorite cafe Brown Dog. It’s perfect for visitors, Vegan and non vegan options, close to walk to and great coffee…Perfect!
This weekend the band life and limb came to visit and we ventured to Brown Dog twice. As usual I had my favorite avocado, turkish bread, grilled haloumi and grilled tomato breakfast. I told my self the second time we went I would try something new but why bother when I could have my favorite breakfast twice in one weekend?

Second breakfast location! Recommendation from our good friends Dave and Brooke!
Conveniently located close to their place and dog friendly! Which means their lovely bull terrier was able to join us. We arrived a bit later in the morning which mean’t the morning rush was just about over. We had to wait for a table for 4 but Craig and I were early so this was no issue. Not to mention they had some vintage clothing and records that kept me busy while we waited. We scored a really sweet table made out an old door. This place loves recycling and it was really apparent with the decor and the goods to sale. I loved it all!
Once we settled in and had a bit of a chat we orders some coffees and breakfast. All our coffees came in different style mugs which was cute. However I really really loved my mug and I have been on the hunt for one similar ever since. It was the perfect size cup of coffee. I don’t know what my breakfast was called but it was something along the lines of breakfast stack. Pesto, haloumi, roasted pumpkin, tomatoes and greens all on turkish bread. I even scored a bit of Dave’s avocado which was pretty rad and tied the whole breakfast together.
My only quirk with this place is that all our meals really came out at different times. If I didn’t eat mine so slow I would of been finished by the time some of the other meals came out. Considering they were not overly busy I am not sure why this was unless they had a really small kitchen. I didn’t really see.
The shop itself also had some lovely jams, breads and home-made crafts for sale. I do believe they had some other items but I didn’t look very well.
Anyway Saturday was lovely with great company, puppy kisses and delicious coffee.

Saying this is breakfast number 1 is a bit of a lie but for the sake of this blog it’s the first. To be honest my favorite breakfast place in Brisbane is the Brown Dog Cafe which is located on the corner of Logan Rd. and Nile st.
This all came about because my partner and I have very conflicting schedules aside from our Saturday mornings. It sort of became a routine to always go out for breakfast on Saturday mornings. The usual place being The Brown Dog cafe however recently we have been branching out a bit to see what Brisbane Cafe’s have to offer… Turns out Brisbane has a lot of lovely cafe’s! (Brown Dog still being the favorite)
To get this all started here are a couple of things to keep in mind. I am in no way schooled in being a writer, a coffee expert or a breakfast connoisseur. Typos, grammar and late posts will happen.
On with the show….
Craig has been recommended this place called Dandelion and Driftwood. He heard it won some awards so we went to check it out.
First impression it was a bit far for us. North Side… ooooof.(I am a bit of a homebody/southside gal so this is no fault of the cafe) Secondly it had a cute take away bit out the front which saved people from going into the very tiny cafe to cause a lot of congestion for those eating in. For a small little place it was really busy. We were really lucky to find a spot for 2 at 10am. It was a bit close to the door but we were willing to take what we could get. I think I over heard someone say there was seating out back but I didn’t bother to check. We were really hungry which is always a bit of a problem when going to a restaurant because if service is a bit slow……it feels like ages! However with that aside I do think it took them awhile to provide us with menu’s. I had the spinach and feta triangle with rocket salad. Craig had a Ham sandwich. First thing is first….coffee. The whole reason we trekked so far was for the coffee. For those who don’t know the usual for us is “soy caramel Latte’s” I am not a huge coffee drinker however Saturdays are my exception Craig on the other hand loves coffee.
We ordered and our coffee’s arrived promptly after. If there is one thing for-sure about this place the coffee and the tea is taken very seriously. Their tea bar looked like a mad scientist lab. With intense looking crazy tea making contraptions. I was intrigued… okay back to the coffee. The coffee arrived with a little card to explain the blend and the roasting process. Coffee and facts! I am in sold! One thing to note that as a soy coffee drinker…. it’s not just the bean that makes a coffee but the type of soy. A good soy milk in my personal opinion makes an amazing cup of coffee. Turns out everything we heard was true. This place made one hell of an awesome coffee. I think Craig even smiled after drinking it. One thing to note about Craig he smiles once every leap year. I carry all the posi weight of the relationship on my shoulders. The coffee blend tasted a bit like coconut and was amazing! It’s no wonder why they win so many awards for their brew.
Our food arrived and it had a lot to live up to with an opening act like that. My spinach and feta triangle was huge and delicious. Craig I do believe also enjoyed his sandwich. Not a typical breakfast food but he is a picky eater. Dandelion and driftwood had a fairly small breakfast menu but for the size of the place it’s perfect. To be fair this place is all about the beverages anyway.
On the way out we couldn’t help but get some of their lovely desserts. We arrived there so late it was basically lunch anyway. We got a caramel tart & a peanut butter woopie pie. The caramel tart was nice but wowzers! that woopie pie is what dreams were made of!
Anyway if you get a chance check out the coffee at the Dandelion and driftwood cafe
